The Yoruba people have primarily been farmers, growing cocoa and yams, around 70% of the population participated in some sort of agriculture. Each Yoruba city has a leader, called an Oba, that is assisted by a council of chiefs in decision making. The Yoruba are said to have around 400 deities, known as orisha, with their high god being known as Olorun. Present day Yoruba are mainly Christian or Muslim.
